The Yugyouji Temple
Many remains from primitive and ancient times have been discovered throughout Fujisawa, indicating that the area has offered a favorable living environment since long ago.
Ryukoji Temple
A temple town started to form in Fujisawa when the monk Donkai built the Yugyoji temple at the end of the Kamakura period (1192-1333). In the Edo period (1600-1867), Fujisawa became very popular as one of the 53 staging posts along the Tokaido Road.
Enoshima Shrine. Hetsu-no-miya
The Benzaiten enshrined in Enoshima also drew many pilgrims from all over Japan and contributed to the development of Fujisawa as a sightseeing city.
